In our continued search around the US for that perfect place we traveled thru the texas hill country.. seemed pretty nice.. we went thru in March of last year.. it wasnt hot or cold

In doing some real estate searching there appear to be large plots of land available at reasonable prices...
What are the negatives to living in the texas Hill country...

    1) Bubba is closer.. and that might be dangerous
    2) I hear the property taxes are astronomical even compared to Cali.. but the property costs are about 60 percent
    3) Jobs are at low pay scales even for professionals (wife/teacher)
    4) Humidity and Bugs
5)Tornados are possible depending how west you get
    6) Cowboy mentality or okie lifestyles in many rural areas

What do you texas boys say?

What would 500k buy there (home land shop package)

    thanks

I lived in Austin for many years and have spent a lot of time in the Marble Falls, Lake Buchanan area over the years. Austin is one of the coolest towns in the country, the area is beautiful and full of lakes, bike trails, wheeling opportunities, trees and hills, and great live music in the city.

Do a real estate search online in a radius of about 2 hours of Austin and you will see some damn good properties for that range. If you want additional info, let me know, I still go to Austin fairly often and have some good friends there.
