Just out of interest sake (and if I can't get this clutch thing to work) what tranny would you install if you did mild 4x4ing, pulled a 16ft travel trailer and used your truck as a daily driver. My current set up is the stock 350 (soon to be an L-98), a SM465 and a NP205. How about the four speed autos, are any of them strong enough? Would I have to get a stand alone computer to run one of these? Can I get an adapter to fit it to my 205?

    Thanks yet again,

    Rod

I have a th350 now but for beef i would try and get my hands on a turbo 400. For th eoverdrive i would run a 700r4. As it is now. Im just gunna keep my truck alive and wheel it but because it is looking like i will building my truck as a trail rig i am going to try and keep an eye out for a turbo 400.

So for me the real choice now is whether to build a Karmen Ghia or a Bug for around town.

Well, for the 'more work than play' tranny, I would choose either the NV4500 or the 4L80E depending on what you want to shift, an automatic or manual tranny.

If you want 'more play than work', I would probably choose the 465 or 400, again depending on how you feel about shifting all the time or not. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

As you're putting a computer controled motor in there. Then use a 4L80E or HD. Or change the exhaust to one that will let you hook up the clutch linkage on what you have. I have headers on my '70 SB350/ Sm465 and it clears the stock linkage. /forums/images/icons/cool.gif

I'm not too sure on the TH400, because it is the most inefficient auto tranny out there, wastes A LOT of power. I had the TH400/205 combo, and traded it out for the 465/205.

If I had to take an cheap 3spd auto, it would be a built TH350/205. Very strong, and reliable, plus cheap parts. If I had a little more $$$ to spend, I would find the 4L80E.

Either way, I'm not sure the OD would serve you very well when you are towing... you'll risk smoking the tranny if that 16' trailer has any weight to it. /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif

Why get rid of the 465 anyhow? The thing is bullet proof, and will last forever!

    Just my .02

4L60E, has the strength of the th400 but the economy of an overdrive.

No the 4L60E is just a electronic update 700R. The 4L80E is the T400 in 4sp overdrive mode.
