if you have to ask, you probably dont wheel very hard. but if you have the money, go with a dana 60 up front and a ff 14 bolt out back. or if you have alot of cash go with rockwell 2.5 tons. thats what i would do.

d60's are the strongest EASILY swapped axle available in the 4x4 world IMHO. The 14bolt full-floating axel rear is just about that strongest GM thing made, besides the allison tranny. I run both and it is about as stron as you get b4 rockwells. the set up costs atleast 1500 bones no matter where you are in the US, un less you rebuild dead ones yourself. you will also need about 12in of lift + fender trimming to fit them under your jimmy along with gears and a BB to spin the fat meats.

There's a lot more than axles for 44's

drive angles
power to turn the meats

hope you're ready for a can of worms with a big pocket book

another BIG issue while running 44's.... radiator and firewall clearance. im not sure if 12" inches of lift will get you out of this mudhole!

My buddy has 12" + 3" body on his K10/K20. His fenders aren't even trimmed. He has rubbed a little, but no major problems.

wide, like skinny 44's,....4 inches susp lift, 4 inch body lift,..massive fender trimming, including
front bumper tips,...you gotta get the right offset/backspace, ...i bought the tires and mod'ed

It does matter I would change the rear axle to a dana 60 or 14 bolt. I have a 60 rear and a high pinion (reverse rotation) front dana 44 and a 60 in back because the 14 bolt sticks down to low.I am running 44's under my blazer with no fender trimming.1 FN HI K5

I would say a 4+3 and trimming would let you have 38's to 39.5's depending on the amount of triming and how much flex you want

Re: what axle for 44\" tires

You could get 39.5s in there with fender trimming for sure. What mag was it that had the Blazer with 39.5s and only 4" of sus lift? I forget, but with some serious fender trimming lots of things are possible. ;) I'm gonna take the sawzall to mine to fit a nice set of 37s in there. 8)

44x11 inch tires. That sounds excellent. What kind of tread if that? Pictures of the tires, tires and your truck? Etc.
