    What axle is this? It is SUPPOSEDLY out of a 79 chevy 1 ton.

    k20, some ppl have no idea what a 1 ton is and what makes it different from a 3/4 ton

    that is the what some people call "1ton D44" note the HUGE 1ton sized hubs regular external D44 hubs are not that big /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

    the 73-76 ones are pretty big, at least full time K20 ones anyways

    I was told that the one with the bigger hubs is a heavy Duty dana 44..............used on the Camper specials...

    That's from a pre 79 3/4 ton, it's a Dana 44. It could be a later model, but then it wouldn't be a Dana 44. Those big
    hubs are just early model Dana externals. They'll fit most Dana 44 axles if you swap the whole hub assembly.
