My 89 oil gauge goes up and down with the rpm. At mid rpm and above it stays pegged at 60, but let it idle and drops to half of that? I am not getting ready to have a problem am I? I hope not, this engine seems to be in really good shape. It was rebuilt a few years ago and erally puts out some power.

replace the sender if it jumps allot its going bad ,if it goes completely it shuts off the fuel pump(tbi models)keep the old one with you when off road just as a back up.

I've got a brand new motor and a brand new sending unit and it does that. It's normal. If you're getting 30 psi at idle, your oil pressure is nice and healthy.

As the rpm's go up so does the oil pressure.

It's been lovely, but I have to scream now.

i believe GM says you need at least 10psi for every 1000 rpm's. so if you are at 30 psi at idle you have more then enough. at the other end of this is you dont want to much oil pressure. a lot of people put hi volume oil pumps in there motor. what this can do is pump all your oil to the top end of your engine while your driving down the road. i use high pressure pumps in my motors unless its a race engine then i use the high volume pump. my prostreet motor runs 100 psi at idle but it also holds almost 9 qts of oil.

My 90 runs between 30 at idle and 60 when crusing or acceleration.
