I know the national channel is 19, emergency is 9, and I think the national 4 wheelin channel is 4. What channel do yall usually run when ridin on the trails? Here back home on local mud holes and stuff like that, me and my buddies talk on channel 3. Just wondering what everyone else does.

Most of us have talkabouts . If that doesnt do anything we have the Nextel phones that have the Builders network. Mostly its just a convience thing, our CBs are normally set to 4. We listen for the Jeeps, Fords, and Mopars that get stuck on the trails with the CBs.

Me and the guys I wheel with usually do a channel of the day thing before we go out, check all the channels and go with the clearest one, not in use. But the rest of the time its on 19

When the mud gets deep and the hills get steep we'll find out who bought the parts that were cheap.

Hey Nashu, what is an average range for a CB? Or is that too vague a question? It seems that I 'get out' about 2-3 miles, is that about right?

Just depends on where you are and what kind of crap is in the air. But about avereage I would say is 2 to 3 miles. It also depends on how much power your set up has and how good of an antenna. I had my cb peaked and tuned so it is putting out a solid 20 watts, it peaks at about 30. I also run 1 full length whip and my swrs are flat as a pancake. I talk very very very well out on the trails. But to tell you the truth I know very little about CB stuff. I used to work at a shop that specialized in CB but that was 6 years ago. See YA, Have A Nice Day!!!

Well I'm using a cheap little CB, Maxon I think, (Christmas present) and 2 4' whips mounted on my mirrors. I have no idea what SWR even means but I can guarantee mine aren't flat as a pancake[IMG]
    Thanks man!

I usually chill on channel 19 when I'm alone.
When I'm talking to my dad or a friend, we just use whatever channel's the cleanest (usually 21 or 23).
