Okay, I know that the 465 came mounted in front of a 205 usinf a 10-spline output at the tranny and a 10-spline input at the t-case, both were male shafts, thus utilizing the drive sleeve...Then in later years, the 465 had a male 32-spline output and mounted to a 208 with a 32 spline female input...What other combos did this tranny come with? Were ther eany ever 465/203 combo's, and what were there spline counts? If the 465 has a 203 on it, does that mean that the t-case has a 32 spline input instead of the usual 27 splie that is had when it was behind a Th350? ANY input is greatly appreciated...

Th elusive 465/203 combo was similar to the 205 combo. It was 10 spline output and 10 spline input on the T-case.

So either it was a 10 spline or 32 spline for the SM 465.

My 465/205 combo has a male shaft in the tranny and a female input in the 205, I believe. Am I missing something, or is the drive sleeve just inside the t-case and I didn't notice it? It's been sitting on my floor for quite some time now.

its definately male 465 output, male 205 input, coupled with a sleeve, tim. if you dont have the adapter unbolted from the transfer case it might look like a female input. but it isnt. Tim when are you gonna stop talking about working on your truck and start DOING IT????????????

So the 465 only had a 32-spline output when mated to a 208, Iam i reading you guys right? Is the 465 10 spine output the same lenght across the board. I mean is the 10-spline output from the 465 to a 203 -case longer or sorter than the output from a 465 to a 205 t-case? Thanks guys...

I spoke to ORD about this topic because i plan on installing an NP 205 and mate it to my SM465 in my 83'. From what i gather it has the the 32 spline output because its mated to a 208. I bought a np205 with the 10 spline input shaft,7" adapter and 10 spline sleeve. From talking to ORD they said the original adapter from the TH400 to the 32 spline np205 was 10". I have the wrong NP205 model for a bolt on job however i plan on machining the NP205 housing to fit in the 32 spline female input shaft/bearing then machining the adapter to fit the larger diameter of the female input shaft. to make this work it seems i may be able to cut some length from the output shaft on my sm465 and still have enough spline to fit into the new transfer case input gear. If not i will just have the sm465 output shaft t re-splined. If this works i will have a transmission/transfer case combo that is 3"'s shorter than the most ideal 1 ton setup. I don't plan on doing this until later this year however i plan on taking pictures of the process so others perhaps can repeat it. A call to ORD really clarified things!

I dont know that the 465 EVER came mated to a 208 ??

32 spline sm465's were the later models like from late 70's (78 at the very earliest) until the end of their run in the 80s.

for some excellent information with pics, check out ORD's NP205 tech page

as for re-splining the shaft, I wouldnt plan on doing that..

I know the 465 came mounted to a 208 in 1981-1987 K5's then in 1988 the 208 became the 241...I expect these combos to be a 32-spline setup...

what is the tranny and TC out of?year?
how long is adapter?
I think there is newer 465 mated to female 32spline 205 with round bolt pattern.
but i could be confusing several stories together.

i have one somewhere with the 3 different 465 shafts...

When I get time from working on my other projects and finishing high school. Then, when I get my 1 ton together enough to drive, and get a better job where I've got some cash, then I'll spend it. $150 a month sure as hell ain't going to build a truck

I'm doing a LOT of brainstorming on my project. I have not really decided on anything at all yet for sure except this 4 speed swap. I'm still trying to figure out how much lift I want, what I'm going to do with it, if I'm going to weld it in both ends, what size tires I'm going to run, etc.

This thing is not going to be a daily driver when it's over, that's for sure.

MJ,

It's 10 spline from a '79 K10. The adapter is still on the 'case, so it probably does have a drive sleeve in it. I honestly didn't inspect the equipment any more than to see that it was a 205 and 10 spline 465 and be done with it.
