Is it anything like a continuous snapping sound when I let off the gas? Now my truck is starting to do it when Im on the gas, but it gets a lot worse with my foot off. What the heck is this? It sounds like its coming from the rear of the truck and its pissing the hell out of me, Its embarassing to drive!

My rear u-joint went a few years ago. A kind of ticking/marbles dropping on glass sound alerted me to it.

When my rear u joint went. I'd get on the gas hard and let off and it would make a clinking noise. Just my thoughts.

mine sounded like a clunk when i would start to release the clutch and/or let of the gas suddenly. there was also a very slight vibration that i could feel in the shifter.

Well, Ive got the marbles on glass sound when I let off the gas, and the clunking between gears, so I guess its the u-joints. Thanks everyone!

Might also sound like a squeak. Either way, swap them before they let go......those driveshafts have a way of hammering things if the U-joints let go. Been there, done that.....

Well, dont know for sure, but mine made a great big WHAM sound followed by some light thunking as the driveshaft bounced off the trail!

Fix it quick, I have recently seen posts with broken transfer cases and other carnage when they let loose. You can have a lot of fun if the front u-joint on the rear shaft breaks loose at speed and the shaft digs in. Ever seen a pole vault competition?

I replaced it today, and not only is the sound gone, but the clunk coming to a stop in drive versus overdrive mentioned in an earlier post is also gone!

Be sure and check the yoke. when those are stressed bcos of a bad u joint the holes will stretch and a new u joint serves no purpose. Sometimes its obvious but you need to really look for out of round or checks or cracks. i replaced a brand new u joint and the next the yoke broke in half!!
