I want to find out what kind of transfercase I have. It is connected to a 700R4 and has a front to back, 2H-4H-N-4L shift patern. What is it and is it a chain version and is it a P.O.S or not?

It is an NP208. It is an aluminum, chain driven case with a 2.6:1 low range. Pretty strong case as long as you don't bash it on a rock, or run it out of fluid.

Sammy, what year is your K5? Its not in your profile...
The 208 was used until 89 I think and then was replaced with the 241. Both aluminum and both chain driven.

Of course you could slide under the truck and see for yourself. There is a round red tag on the back of the T-case with the model number and low-range stamped on it...
