What do I need to replace when going from 350 to 383? Or even 454

I just bought a 72 Jimmy with the complete driveline from a 3/4 ton truck. What do I need to upgrade, besides what's included in this kit: here or what about going from the setup as it is now to a 454? I'm trying to figure out whether I want to rebuild it as a 350, 383, or get a 454 for about a grand...Thanks for any input.

383 is a 350 block..., .030 over with a 400 crank or a special grind crank with a 400 throw...and theres been some people on here who have done small block to big block swaps so a search would yield you some results about that topic..good luck

Going to the 454 is easy. Use the small block mounts and then bolt every thing in. The biggest change is the exhaust.

[/ QUOTE ] Get the 454 !!!! My first K5 was a 72 with a 454, sm465/NP205 and 1 ton axles with (4:56 or 4:88 gears, can't remember witch) turning 36" tires. I'm still kicking myself everyday for ever letting that one go !!!!!

If you go with the BBC you may have to upgrade the cooling system(4 core rad) and you will have to use big block accesory brackets, the SBC ones won't work...try to get 'em at the boneyard since they're real pricey elsewhere...

One thing to consider is the cooling system. I bet quite a few people you ask on here, that went from a 350 to something like a 400 or 454, and didn't change at least the radiator, had problems right from the engine break in.

Rradiator is oft-overlooked...what may cool a mild 350 may not cool a mild 454, and you won't know until you try to break the motor in. BTDT.

Getting a beefy radiator isn't a problem, seeing as how I don't have one now /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
