i usually just use windows media to rip mp3s, but if theres something better that i dont have to pay for at all... also ive been having a hard time finding a good completely free encoder as i just got a dvd burner for xmas and im wanting to convert file types. oh and im using nero that came with the burner to burn.

My pc (custom) did not have a decoder with it.You will not find a quality encoder that is free. For $14.00 on the net you can get a good one.I use Nero for my CD's but am looking for something that is simple to use for the DVD.The more I look the more confused I get. Also I'm looking for a X copy writer for the x box PS2 games.

as far as burning dvd's, use dvd shrink and dvd decrypter. They work great are 100% free. I just use roxio for all of my other burning and converting needs.
