I found a cdx-mp450x head unit. It is new. It sold for about 450. He is asking 235 for it. It plays mp3s. It also has 50wx4 on the box. I don't even know what that is. this is new to me. Any help would be appreciated. Mike

Alot of people have been having problems with Sony car stereo's. But for other people, they've been okay. Tough call.

Depends on what your looking for, I"ve never ran an explode head unit, I"ve run the upper end the whole time. c910 and a 7550? I think that's what it was
I've got 2 amps now and there ok nothing to brag about but it all depends on what you want them to do. Don't expect amazing results but moderate maybe

To tell the truth, I really like JVC headunits. Mine has (3) sets of pre-amp outs (front, rear, and sub) Built in crossover is nice. If you're planning on useing the headunit to power the 4 main speakers, higher wattage per channel headunit. If you're going to use external amps, highest pre-amp outs voltage, 4.5 or higher is prefered. You really need to decide what you want. Are you going to want MP3 ??? CD, cassettes, Satilite radio, ...ect. ?????

I think you should always run a amp for the speakers because even though a head unit says uts 50x4 thats peak power and head units use a really small IC to do it. normally there around 20x4 rms but dont have any current to for when the speaker is moving through its motion and ohms is chaning. current makes all the differenane in the world, if you dont believe me go down to circuit city and demo a harmankardon reciver say 50x5 vs a sony reciver thats 100x5... and youll see how much more musical the H/k.
So, even if you got a small amp for the speakers ( 35x4 rms ) they would sound alot better.

Well alotta people say their stuff sucks, but i have all sony in car stuff except my 3.5" speakers under the dash. Mine sounds great. Dont expect anything like a dream system would get but for in my opinion it is good. It also depends on what ya listen to, country with some southern rock is about it for me. So for my music its good.

I've got a Sony Xplod 10" sub and I like it. Only problem I've had is one of the wires broke at the soldered connection, was easy enough to fix though.

I WOULD NOT use one of their head units though. My brother is on his third one and it is even messing up. The CD player is crap. His friends have also had problems with theirs.

I have a JVC head unit in my truck and I like it, havent had any problems so far and I've had it for a couple years. I also have 2 Jensen 6x9s (Ok, their stuff seems cheap too) hooked to a Road Gear 250 watt amp (Walmart special). My 10" Sony sub is hooked to a 600 watt Kenwood amp (Inexpensive and powerful).

I am all AIWA for a head unit. I know some friends with XPLOD units and I wasn't thrilled with them. He would have to let his car idle for a while before turning it on or it would kill the battery /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif oh well, just a little Tercel(speedbump)
