    This one. For a 400cid small block. Planning on Weiand Stealth Intake Manifold, Comp Cams Extream 4X4 cam, and some Doug Thorley TRI-Y's, but other then that, the motor will be stock. Think this is a good carb ??? My stock Q-Jet is pretty worn out. Could rebuild, but don't know if it's worth it, reather just replace it. {I know most of y'all like Q-jets, I was just wondering if I'd be better with this Stage 2 over a Stage 1}

    I have heard that the projection system is a piece of [darn] and for a built motor it won't work anyway. FI kits are like headers...It pays off to spend the extra cash for a good setup.

    Z3PR, I have an delbrock Q-jet on my 406 with basically the mods you described and I like it, just needs to be rejeted.

    Well hopefully someone will chime in on this one but I have heard that the projection systems are cheap and hard to tune. It seems I remember someone on this board that had the projection unit and had a very hard time trying to get it to run right. I have even heard about people complaining about the higher end commander 950 systems. I here that the Edelbrock pro flo and Accel systems are really nice systems that run great but they are 2K plus.
    I may get the edel pro flo system and install the kit along with AFR heads on my 406 someday.

    If it is a spread bore intake than yes. If it is a square bore than no but you can buy a square to spread bore adapter.

    Just seeing if you thought of that....

    I do not like Q Jet to squere bore adapters.

    If new carb and intake, why not match them up to start with??????????????

    The stage II carb should work great BTW....

    It's can be hard to find a duel plain spread bore intake with off idel responce. I won't own anything that says Edelbrock on it.(Note to everyone; No need for a pissing contest over that statement, I just don't like Edelbrock, and I won't buy one.) I could probley use this one. That's quite a big carb-even for a 400ci. As it says 'street/strip' it's probebly better suited to tuned 'revvy' motors, where as you'll want a torque friendly carb. Generally a smaller carb and narrow headers will give better torque and low down response than a big bore carbs and headers. Would have thought a 600 carter/holley or edelbrock and dual plane manifold would suit best /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

    Thats a very good manifold, I have one. just make sure you use top quality Felpro Blue line gaskets and be sure and remove the metal restrictors on the center coolant crossover. As for the carb (sorry to see the edelbrock fear). For a hundred dollars more you can go with the edelbrock M4ME which is a Brand New, not rebuilt and is made by Weber. All edelbrock does is put their name on it ( on a little aluminium plate that attaches to one of the carb through bolts, and is easily removed). I have two of them in operation and am very impressed with their performance. They work very well cause their brand new not rebuilt. Just bolt that baby on there adjust your idle and fast idle solenoid if you have AC, and your good to go. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

    Have you ever seen the primaries on a Q Jet????

    The same thing was put on 305's too.

    Do not underestimate a 400's breathing abilities....

    [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, make sure you have it rejetted for your motor. My Q-jet is running lean on my 400 and I need to get it rejetted bad, I'm getting crap building up on the plugs. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

    Yep. You can find TBI's all day at the yards pretty cheap and easy to convert. I think the TBI swap is a good conversion.

    Z3-The Weiand 8000 is a very good manifold. A properly built Q-jet is a very good carb.
