what front end is this?

    ok someone wants to trade me a 83 chevy long bed 3/4 ton for my 87 and give me 1500 bucks difference, i know it has a 14ff rear, i scoped that one, 4 speed dont know the t-case,but the front axle im not sure on its freaking huge i swear the pumpkin is like 2 basketballs, but what is it, anyone have an idea what it oucld be, being that big, its 8 lug i do know that? what t-case would it be as well, and is that a good trade, truck is sharp but its only an 83 /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

    Hey,
    If that 83 is a real 3/4 ton...then it has a 10 bolt front..unless something was swapped out. The transfercase is the NP208.

    If it's really that big, it could be a Dana60. To know for sure, when you're looking at the diff cover, a "60" is cast into the bottom, long axle side corner of the diff housing. About an inch from the edge of the diff cover.

    Also a dana 60 only uses 3 u-bolts, the 2nd one on the passenger side are 2 studs(bolts is owner went that route)

    You may know this but 8 lug Dodge D44s use 3 u-bolts & 2 studs like a D60. The kingpins instead of balljoints is a better ID point. I know we are talking about a Chevy, but once axle swaps come into the picture, a Dodge front becomes a possibility.

    Something from a large OTR truck? If you want help IDing an axle that sort of discription will not help you get a usefull answer.
