I would like to get a new tailgate for my 73. What year donor vehicle should I be looking for? Do I have to stay within the 73-75 year range?

Get yourself an LMC catalog. It's free from www.lmctruck.com. I use it often to see if the year range of parts.

Only difference I can think of is wiring for the electric ones. Changed about '84 or 85 I'm guessing. Just the plugs. Other than that, listen to everyone else ; )

I am not familiar with the Blazer's, but I know the pickups changed around 80/81. You can put an older tailgate on a new bed, and vice versa, but you need the matching trunnions. I forget which way it went, but one style uses a larger trunnion on the bedpost and matching section on the tailgate, and the other used a smaller one. It may be the same for the Blazers but I don't know to be honest (just something to bear in mind). I know the Blazers use a different style hinge (bottom mounted instead of side mounted) and latch than the pickup, so it probably won't be a problem. Worst case scenario get all hardware from donor vehicle. Good Luck
