    1. You must learn to pronounce the city name. It is: "den-ver" not
    Denvah.

    2. Forget the traffic rules you learned elsewhere. Denver has its
own version of traffic rules...the cars/truck with the loudest muffler goes
next at a 4-way stop. The truck with the biggest tires goes after that.
(Note: Blue-haired, green-haired or cranberry-haired ladies driving anything
    have right of way anytime.)

    3. To find anything in Denver it is required that you know where
Colfax and Broadway are ...... which is the Alpha and Omega. The Beginning
    and the End.

    4. The morning rush hour is from 5:00 to 10:00. The evening rush
hour is from 3:00 to 7:00. Friday's rush hour starts on Thursday morning.

    5. If you actually stop at a yellow light, you will be rear ended,
cussed out and MOST LIKELY shot.

    6. You must know that "I-25 and the Valley Hwy" are the same road.
Same goes for Hampden Ave, and 285 - they are the same too.

    7. Construction is a permanent fixture in Denver. The barrels are
moved around in the middle of the night to make the next days driving a bit
    more exciting.

    8. Watch very carefully for road hazards such as drunks,
jay-walkers, pan-handlers, skunks, dogs, barrels, cones, cows, horses, pot
holes, cats, pieces of other cars, truck tires, squirrels, rabbits, and
crows or vultures feeding on any of these items.

    9. Ground clearance of at least 12 inches for your vehicle is
recommended for city driving. Lots of "stuff" falls off or falls from
    something.

    10. If someone actually has their turn signal on, wave them to the
shoulder immediately to let them know it has been "accidentally activated".

    11. The minimum acceptable speed on "all freeways, I-25, Hwys 76,
225/285/Hampden, Hwys 87 and 36 is 85 mph. Anything less is considered
downright sissy. This is Colorado's version of NASCAR. The difference is
some drivers are armed and irritable!

    12. Never honk at anyone. Ever. Seriously. (it maybe hazardous to
    your health)

    13. If you are in the left lane, and only going 70 in a 55-65 zone
... you are considered a road hazard, and will be "flipped off" accordingly.

    14. The trend in recent years indicates if it's 70 degrees,
    Thanksgiving must be next weekend

When I first went to Spickler's *swooooon* driving was a bit nerve wracking, but not horrible. This was in my truck, so it was noticeable, and a lot of people were nice neough to let me go first and whatnot.

Keep in mind, I live in a town with no traffic lights and only 50% paved roads......

As far as mugging, come get me!

Well if you do not get involved, vote , lobby, or whatever , then you have no say in your government . At least go vote for what you believe in and against what you don't like /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

eh all I know about driving is this, if you stop at a red light, there is something wrong with you.... I am a little thrown each time the light turns red and the 10 cars in front of me keep going.

All true, a total cluster f*ck driving in Denver. I had to drive from the Mile Hi stadium area to the Tech Center every day for 7 years.

As far as construction and screwed up roads and detours, Austin TX is also pretty bad. I went to college there and went back not too long ago, and it's actually a messy big city now.

I'd say driving in Austin is worse than Denver. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

I live next to 35(across from UT Law) and I can't leave my apartment during rush hour.

Yeah, I was back in March and my friend lives right off Woodland and 35, a freakin' mess at rush hour. And forget about 6th and the downtown area too, detour and construction city.

The biggest shame about Austin now is Barton Creek, not at all what it used to be. I have some hazy memories of Airmens cave on the creek. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I grew up and learned to drive in Denver, and at the time was convinced that Texans were the biggest dumbasses in the world. Guess who generally drove 20mph below the speed limit on the mountain passes and were almost impposible to get around? the Texans. Now that I have lived in Texas for quite some time and have done a little traveling, I am convinced that there are just a lot of dumb asses that are drivers, and a lot of them are found on I-5.

The good thing is that all the Denver drivers stay in the left lane so the fast lane is on the right.
Someday, I'm going to get a bumper sticker that says
"I'm from Denver so I'm allowed to drive slow in the fast lane" then drive really slow in the fast lane!
It's a real PITA when heading up a mtn. pass pulling a load. They won't let you in either.
Don't know if it will work but they just passed a law here that says if you are driving in the left lane and not passing, they can give you a ticket with a fine and 3 points. Will see if it works /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

How can you tell the drivers from Colorado ?

    He'll be the 4th one through the red light. * badda-bing *

The amount of drivers that run red lights in Denver is AMASEING !
I think they time 'em that way. You get a quick green blip, and lengthy yellow, followd by a red light that just goes on and on forever.

I made the mistake of actualy stoping for on the red light, the last time I was there. Just to sit there and watch a vacant entersection for atleast a minute or two. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Denver is a piece of cake compared to the Bay Area /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif I have driven both and there is no comparison.
