Thermal limiter switch. I was going through my LMC catalog and found it in there. And its listed as only a part on the 1973 truck. What does it do???

you hook it up to the red wire on the bottom of the flux capcitor and it stops the hydraulic diferentiator from overheating your chrome muffler bearings LOL

It keeps you from wearing too much long thermal underwear when skiing so you don't overheat during the day... [IMG]

That is a good question though, never heard of such an animal before!

Hmmmm. somethin to do with fan or cooling system probably.
That seems like for an electric fan though. 73s didn't have electric fans that I know of. Maybe for a BIG truck? A big deisel or truck with air brakes or a compressor of some kind? heck...who knows??! Now you got me wonderin! I will not be able to sleep tonite!!!!!...I need a BEER!!! ..ughh!!

Can you tell if it's electrical or does it have vacuum ports on it? Early attempts to limit emissions included a thermal vacuum switch that screwed into the thermostat housing. It changed the way the vac advance worked until after the engine warmed up.

OK, I couldn't stand not knowing, so I checked my service manual and called LMC just to be sure. LMC said it comes up on their computer as an AC thermal limiter switch. They said that it's like the thermostatic switch in later models. So there ya go. If I'm ultimately wrong, please don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger... :-)

Electrical only man. 3 prongs sticking out of it. Looks like something that might belong on the firewall or fender...and a harness would plug into it.

Cool. Thanks for checking. I guess that makes sense that it isn't on my truck. It came from the factory with A/C, but the compressor, lines, etc are long gone...I guess they just took that thermal switch with it.

Brian, we were just kidding, it really does have everything to do with blinker fluid. Just checking to see if you were paying attention.
