OK, after much deliberation ( a.k.a. pleading to my dad) I have decided to put a 14 bolt FF and a 3/4 ton dana 44 under my (our) 71 K5. I know its pretty much a bolt up on the later models of blazer but is it the same on mine? I have heard that on the back all you have to do is reposition/weld shock mounts. Is this true or is there far more involved, also how about the front end, is it a bolt up besides driveshafts or is there also a lot involved?

    Thanx in advance

i think you will also have to move the spring perches to fit your rig,,believe they have to be moved inward a little bit...

I have a 3/4 14 bolt and a 1 ton 14 bolt and you have to move the spring perches on the 3/4 ton axle but the one ton will bolt right up on my 72

They are both full floaters only thing different is the spring perches you can get semi floater but i wouldn't bother go all the way and some day get the dana 60 up front.

When I did this on my 71, I used a 1 ton 14 bolt and a 3/4 ton dana 44 front. the rear bolted up, but I needed to shim the pinion up a little and I also had to re-weld the shock mounts. The frontend bolts in for the most part. However, I found that the 73-78 dana 44s have thicker tubes than the pre-73 ones, so I bent the u-bolts a little. You will also need new u-bolts and plates, and a 1310/1350 hybrid u-joint for the rear. If you have any more questions just hit me up the next time you see me online.
