The non-tapered one could have been converted from a dully to SRW. It is hard to see in that pic of the non-tapered one but when you cut down a dully hub you are left with a thicker hub than normal.

From what i know---mine (tapered) came off a civilian truck, and my friends (straight) for sure came from a military. thats about all i can figure out about them.

The straight hub came off of a Dodge dana 60 (or 61)and the tapered hub came off of a Chevy (the year dodge hub was I think 92-93 prior they had a bolt on locking hub)

    gotta ask why you care?
looks to me like a simple retooling of the mold or something
far as I know the bearings and everything are still the same
    am I missing something?
I seem to recall a bendix symbol in there somewhere but cannot recall if it was on the hub or just the caliper bracket
opps wrong it is cast by BUDD as can be seen plainly in the pic, who casts the tapered ones

    cool
as you have access to both styles perhaps you can do a comparo to see if one looks better then the other
maybe check for casting marks on the tapered style to ID the manufacturer

Dan, I have seen this and noticed it also.

From my sightings, GM hubs are tapered and Dodge hubs are straight.

I have never seen the opposite on the other axle, so it must be the way they were designed.

Thats funny. Mine came from CCUV military truck, and it has BUDD cast into the hub and its tapered. I've never seen a non-tapered one before.

Re: What is the difference between these dana 60\'s?

with a little engineering, any dodge d60 can be put into any K5. two things though... after 92, dodge put the diff on the wrong side and started butchering the left side axle with their wonderfull sleeve-lock device thingy that only dodge can come up with. i have a '78 K5 and am currently fitting a dodge d60 from a mid to late '70's w300. the only catches here (so far) are the fact that the spring seats are spaced 0.5" wider on the dodge axle, and the donor truck had an NP203. so i have to figure out those two, and also whether or not i'll be able to fit 15" wheels around the brakes.

    hope this helps...

Re: What is the difference between these dana 60\'s?

I have seen a straight hub Chevy Dana 60 over at Roger's. It cam from a 91 1 ton single wheel truck. It was not a CUCV axle. He also said there was not much difference then that and a tapered hub 60. If you want I can try and get some more info on it.
