Which reminds me, I had to get my floor fixed, buy a new window for the house, and a new couch after the last mouse ran through the house.

Looks like a flying squriell. If you live near pine trees down here you see them all of the time at night. They also get in the house through the fireplace/chimmny, which results in the total destruction of several rooms if your labs see them before you.

looks far bigger than any chipmunk or flying squirrel I've seen. Been a long time since I've seen a flying squirrel though. My first thought was escaped or released Chinchilla but the tail looks so long. People are stupid about exotic pets. Gets to a point and they don't like it they think its fine to just let it go in the woods behind their house. I know an exterminator that told me years ago there was an outbreak of Hedgehogs running around my area. People got them for pets, didn't like them, let them loose. I'm sure they all froze to death when winter came

Looks like some kind of a Weasel to me. Hard to tell from the pic But weasels look like that. With big whiskers, a pointy snout and a black tip on its tail brownish fur and a white belly . Look at its teeth Weasels have pointy predator teeth with big K9s Rodents have rat teeth with two big gnawing teeth in the very front like a beaver.

They can be very messy as you described when they get indoors.
