Is mobil 1 good for an engine with 160,000 miles?

It certainly should be OK - I'm not sure if the synthetic is really going to do much good in a higher mileage engine, but it may help squeeze a few extra years out of it. I typically run Napa/Mac's 15W50 in mine.

I wouldn't be allowed to eat at the supper table at my Papaw's house if I used anything other than good old fashioned Penzoil.

well, there are a LOT of mines in the area of Wyoming, and the guy that is over the equipment uses 3 times more oil in the equipment then the ENTIRE state here (not too impressive because theres not too many people here LOL, but a lot of oil).

guy uses nothing but Mobile 1 synthetic because it performes so much better then everything else he's used (and he's used it all).

1 quart quaker state higher mileage synthetic, 4 quarts quaker state synthetic.

Just dropped 5 quarts of Mobil 1 in the wife's car (which ate up the emissions test yesterday; lowest numbers I've ever seen!!).

I use Shell Rotella-T. Of course, I have a diesel so I guess that excludes me.

I use 20-50 Penzoil Summer and 10-40 Winter. I have 120K on the engine and it's running strong. Summers are short in Maine.

    If it breaks, upgade it.

Quaker state 4x4 semi sythetic. Not too expensive and seems to be doing great on my 383 with 10000 on it.

    Wal-Mart 10W40 summer, 5W30 winter.

I've got news for you guys, ALL OIL IS THE SAME. If it's API grade SJ, I use it.

Castrol "synthetic" isn't synthetic at all, they use a glitch in the interpretation of the word to sell you regular oil for more money.

I work at Jiffy Lube and I've been working on my own stuff for a long time--and there we don't recommend switching to synthetic oil if you're over 100,000 miles.

Once upon a time Penzoil was made from some kind of crap (wax) that turned to sludge but since they've changed to a normal base oil like everyone else. I still wouldn't pay extra for it anyway.

I run Mobil 1 in all four of my vehicles engines. Change filter at 5000 and oil and filter at 10,000. I've had vehicles with over 200k on them and no motor problems at all. Boat runs AMSOil 2-cycle and all the gears get AMSOil gear lube. The 97 Tahoe has 140,000 and no leaks, no puffs on start up. I run regular oil for the first 5,000 then switch to synthetic.

I've been running Quaker State 4x4 oil... but I'm going to switch to the Havoline 10-40 for the rest of the summer. See if it's as good as they claim...

    Round Rock, Texas I haven't failed, I've found 10,000 ways that don't work. www.rocko.rockcrawler.com

Okie dokie. 'Splain this to me that Castrol Syntec is not really "fake" oil. How come when I used to run "real" oil after about 2,500 to 3,000 miles, it was burnt up pretty good, but on the "fake" stuff I can run twice that and the oil isn't burnt? I started running "fake" oil about 30,000 miles ago and haven't had any problems on the engine that is sitting at 145,000?
