what kind of heads are these? Anyone know where to look up online?

    OK, this is what i found on the heads under the valve covers...

    E28-70(pretty sure its an E, not a 3)
    394704(the 3 could be an 8 but I don't think so

    The first part of that casting number is the date code. E-28-70. The "E" refers to month since E is the 5th letter in the alphabet they were cast in May. 28 is the day, the 28th. and 70 is the year. Later on in GMs numbers, they assumed you knew the decade (if it were a later head it would read E 28 0) There's little differences in Chevy heads that will indicate decade. If you want, I can make a posting on the little differences between decades...

    Big block stuff, as far as I've been able to determine has always had the full year in the date casting...

    The other number is the casting number, which you already figured out...
