I've never driven/seen one personally. How are they durability wise? How is it when it is mated to the 6.5Td?

NV4500, good transmission, wish I had one in my burb or my 95 I owned before the burb. Stout, creeper gear, its a good transmission. Same one that came and still comes behind Dodge Cummins motors.

As posted it's the NV4500. I've got a '92 light duty K2500 with a 350 and the NV4500. The ratios are a spaced a little far for sluggish 350--Not enough torque. Also 92 model 4500's have the deeper granny. Would probably work great with the 6.5TD but I've never driven one equiped as such.

Had an 88 C1500 with a 350 and a Getrag 5-speed. A pretty bullet proof tranny, but man that thing was a cranky, rough and loud cog box. Definitely not your silky smooth manual tranny. From what I remember, the tranny was not rebuildable.

wtf???? Getrah 5 speed, bulletproof???????? You are truly the first person I have heard, or the first i think to ever utter such words. I've seen one where the internals literally blew to pieces. And as far as loud and whatever its a truck transmission, thats the way of things, try an SM465 sometime. As for NV4500s, they go for about $1000 rebuilt, and unless you find a yard with one or two I think thats what you are stuck with. Sometime I will pony up the cash and put one in my burb but not till well after the buggy is done.

Try $1000 rebuildable and double that for a rebuilt one.

Those 1/2 ton 5 speeds are HORRIBLE.

My SM 465 is as loose as a two dollar whore and I like it that way. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

My '92 K3500 has the NV4500. They are supposed to be very good.

I agree with you on that one. I got a deal on mine, fomr a salvage yard we deal with at work. . It was a grand with the tranny, bellhousing, slave cylinder, master cylinder, pedal, shifter, fork, flywheel, clutch, starter, and all misc bolts.
I have yet to see a fully rebuilt one for $1,000

Well, I got the truck it was in. Its a 92 K2500, with a 5 speed. more pics to come. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Oh yeah, I dunno what first gear is, but it is some pretty darn steep gearing. I barely got anywhere in 2hi, when I put it in 1st, and 4lo, I could walk faster than the truck. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

NV4500, now you get why some of us like our 465s with creeper gear?

Oh ya. Absolutely. My 700R4 has a pretty low first gear, but I dont think its quite this low- purely seat of the pants feelings.

First on the early 4500 should be 6.34 or so, and around 5.61 on the later (95 & up, as well as non-GM) models.
