i have a 1985 blazer with 350,700r trans,33" tires sonn to be 35". I currently have stock axels with stock 3.08 gears. I use the blazer for fishing and camping trips with mild wheeling.
what is a good gear size for this type of use and how much should I expect to pay to have them installed. I now live in the Santa Cruz area.

Would it be cheaper in the long run to switch to stronger axels ie dana 60, 12 bolt? Thanks for your help

    Al

Do some searching here and you will find more info than you need.
You should expect a cost of 1-1.2k to change ratio and you should use 4.10 for your purposes, you could go 4.56 if you want to rock crawl or even 4.88.
To switch to other size I think might be cheaper if you find the ratio you need but I guess finding 8lug D44 and 14BFF might be cheaper, if you find a D60 and 14BFF for cheaper than 1k then you would be lucky and yes go for it.
Do you need the extra beef for what you want, I think not.
Do some searching there is plenty...
