Azteck...about the ugliest POS I have ever seen! What is wrong with GM? Every car they have now is about ugly at the Chevy camp. The Azteck brought new meaning to the word ugly. I just looked at one in the parking lot. The rear hatch reminds me of the back of a Honda CRX. The front looks like something out of Judge Dread. The side looks like a kids cartoon magazine. Do they really think that ugly POS is going to sell? I like futuristic looking things but if thats the future, the future sure will be ugly. Looks like the truck line is next for ugly works after the Silverado goes out. Looks like the dude that designed the Azteck did the Avalanche. Yeah it has function but it looks like crap.

Damn, dont think I could have put it into words any better. I saw one at the local Pontiac dealer and thought it was a joke of some kind. Looks kinda sick, like they ran out of money in the design phase and slapped that sucker together from an old dodge caravan and an escort.

I agree with you Grim, i am hoping I can get enough cash to buy one of the new GMC 3/4 tons witht he old body style before they get the axe! And with a 454 before it is gone also!

The Aztek and the Avalanche are hideous! The Avalanche has some cool function to go with it, but the looks are nasty, I dont really like the new style Silverados either, they are kind of wimpy looking.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the Azteck is butt ugly, and the kicker is it is only front wheel drive, yet on TV they show people camping in the woods where there are no roads - They must think were stupid!!

I personally thought it looked like the bastard child of a grand am and a Grand Cherokee. Despite its looks, I personally hope the thing sells like hotcakes, and hope the RAV4, CRV and all the other sport-cutes pick up dramatically in sales.

    Think I'm nuts yet?

If this happens, maybe they'll start making trucks that are really trucks again, with a live axle under the front, intead of the abortion they've had for the last decade with the so-called "car-like ride" all the pretenders want so they can drive "real trucks". This way, the posers can have something that looks like a truck, without ruining it for those of us who know better.

    One Aztek, 35" TSL Swampers...hhhmmmmmmm?
    ColoradoAztek.com!!!! Yeah, baby, yeah.

I'M ONLY KIDDING!!!! Seriously though, it looks like a beefed up LeCar! As ugly as the thing is, the saddest part is that there'll be people who buy one. Ouch!

I had to do a double take too. I thought it was an escapee from a Dr. Seuss book. I had to laugh though, The ground clearance is comparable to the wife's Geo Metro. I guess this is the vanguard of Pontiac's foray into the booming SUV market. And guess what, Saturn is building it's new suv accross the street from me, and the prototype looks painfully similar! I'll stick with my K-5 till I croak.

Have yall seen pics of the new GMC Teradyne(sp?)? That looks like a pretty tough lookin futuristic truck. It looks pretty beefy with futuristic type patterns. Not sure if I'm saying it or describing it right. Anyways, I agree, Aztek is a joke. Versitle my ass. And they gave one to that gay guy who won $1million on that show Survivor. If I won it, I would've considered it an insult that they added that as one of the prizes.

Hey same guy who dreamt up the Aztek...did the same with the AMC Pacer and the Edsel, and the Pinto,VW micro bus,Maverick, Vega and on and on and on [IMG][IMG][IMG]. These Yo Yos are yuppies who listen to Yuppies and have yet to really get off the ashalt road, or the yellow brick one for that matter...it would be refreshing to see a real kick-ass 4x4 come out of Detroit...but until then I be working, bleeding in and on, and swearing at the K5 in my driveway.

Hey, lay off the microbus. That was a way cool machine for it's time, and was quite good until 1973, when they went to the pancake engine. Despite the minimal horsepower, the machine was rated at one ton. Pretty good for 1930s technology.

BTW, I would suggest that the hummer is pretty close to a real detroit built 4x4

  14. Yeah I kinda like the Avalanche too. But the Aztec/Echo/Focus is a POS. And yes I think the rear end is left over CRXs. And did anyone see the Chevy Prowler, oh I mean SSR?

Chevy makes some great vehicles, but they seem to be a few months late with some of these recent models. They seem to be lacking in the idea dept as of late.

The latest pictures available on the Avalanche (from the Chevy URL) state that the actual production vehicle might be a little different. Those particular changes might change some minds about it. I have no problem with it.
I just read this weekend that the SSR is going to be placed into production. I think it's a lot better than the Prowler. the prowler only comes with a V6. The SSR is set to be rear wheel drive with a V8, the way it should be. Sounds like fun.
What's going on in new car showrooms is that the manafacturers are trying to give the consumer what they want. What they consider to be the consumer is based on market surveys and sales analysis. Current trends dictate that consumers want vehicles that break the mold, "X-treme" trucks, SUV's, and multi-function things. All we can do is to continue buying iron we believe in and let future determine what Detroit comes up with next. I'll say this, I'd rather see them experiementing with trucks/SUV's than mini-vans![IMG]

I don't know what they're thinking but I saw one yesterday and it blew my mind. I can't believe that that many people agreed on building something that hideous. On the avalanche, I can't say I like it. Too damn much plastic and too many doodads to break easily. Of course, ford has had one similar to it out for a couple months and they're selling like crazy. I can't remember the name of it though. It has about 20 jillion things that it's supposed to be able to do. I dunno, call me a retro freak whatever, but I love the older iron and am quite fond of my two K5s. haha. [IMG][IMG]

Oh right, rated at One ton.....I've driven them machines, remind me a whole lot of Corvairs, spend more time on their respective tops or sides than on their wheels, oh yes and the 60's and 70's and in the back of the HIPPIE Van[IMG][IMG], many flowers plucked and many smoked in the back of the Mirco Bus...(by the way I've been clean for 28 years), but hey they're still Junk, and the Hummer Yeah Like I can go out and spend<font color=red> $46,000</font color=red>on a 4x4 or
should I say $X$...just don't like the Hummmers more of a status symbol than anything..Don't get me wrong when I said a decent 4x4, meant something the average shmoe can buy, take it out and do some decent off-roading in it, something with balls and articulation, lockers, a built in winch, lights, no carpet, a killer stereo, and 35x14.5 MT tires on it, (not Firestones)and oh yes it must look similar to a K5[IMG]

With the direction GM has taken with their truck designs, if I were in the market for a newer fullsize (not likely) I would looking at the other two brands. But I'll keep my K5 till I'm 100 and restore and modify my K30 Crewcab instead.

I hate to be the one to say this but there are some great 4X4s still being built, just not by Chevy. Mother Mopar has some of the best, but Mercedes will screw that up just give it time (look at the M-class, can you say minivan. They won't import the G-Wagon or Uinimog, either.) But for now:3/4 short bed-360 or V10 or Cummins, NV4500, NVG241, Dana44 and 9 1/4 diffs. Jeep TJ: 4.0 I6, NV3500, NVG321, Dana44 rear. Then there's the Grand-solid axles & a V8 in a small SUV, Chevy never even offered that. The 1/2 ton p/u & box Cherokee aint bad either.

    It's a Wheelbase thing, You're Jeep wouldn't understand!
