I'm getting a '82 1/2 ton suburban for free <img src="http://coloradok5.com/forums/images/icons/cool.gif"> that's basically rotted and stripped of some stuff but...it's 4wd with a 454 and the whole drivetrain is there. Just curious if anyone knows if the rears will fit (guessing it has a 12b and a 10 up front w/4:10's?) and how 'bout the springs? Too long? Unfortunatly, my uncle has already claimed the 454 but my 350 is still pretty darn strong so i'm not worried about it....but it would be sweeeet! Also wondering what trans/tranfer case it has. thinking a th350 & 208? Any help is appreciated.

    Re: What will fit?

If it is a 3/4 ton Burb then it should have a 10 bolt front and a 14 bolt rear. It should also have a 400/208 and everything but the rear driveshaft should bolt in a K5.

It's a 1/2 ton. that's why i'm guessing 10b &amp;12b? the springs should be the same length? Axles same width? Front steering linkage will all bolt up? Sorry bout all the ?'s just dont want a smoked burb sitting in my drive with nothing to use off of it. Thanks.

It should all bolt in like I said except the rear shaft. I thought 3/4 ton because of the bigblock.

Before you do anything check the gears because you might have better gears now then what is in the burb. Also if the gears are the same as your K5 you dont have to swith the front axle but the 12 bolt is a step up over the 10 bolt but I am not totally sure if the Burb will have a 12 bolt in back because I don't know what year the stopped using them. I know it was in the earley 80's but not sure of what year. You can look in the tech section and it might help.

i've got 3.42's now so i'm hoping that the burb has a better ratio. That's the only reason i'd swap them both out. GM phased out the 12b in '82 but just not sure if all or some had the 12 that year. I just slapped 33's on and although the 3.42's pull fine, i'm sure 4.10's would make the hole a lot stronger. Thanks.

If Burbans have all the same stuff as the K5s then I think it should have a 700r4 (started using them in 82) and np208 (started using them in 81) and a 10 bolt rear (started using them in 81), unless someone else has already swapped stuff out.

4:10's and 33's with the 700r4 should work good.

The first year for the 10 bolt rear to start was in '83. [IMG]

My Grandmother has an 81 C10 with a ten bolt rear. Also the specifications page says they used 10-bolts and 12-bolts in 81 and just 10-bolts in 82.

Thanks for the info to all. I just went down to see it. kind of buried but i did see the 12b in the rear. i got the tag off of the glove box and it says "GQ1" for the axle. i looked that code up and all i find out is "GQ1 AXLE, STD RATIO" That doesn't help much. wondering if anyone knew what ratio may be the "most common " in this '82, 1/2 ton, 4wd w/350. and, check this out...my uncle thought it was a 454 but i found out it's a 350 stroked out to a 383. bites for him. i'll yank it for him anyway since he's giving me the rest [IMG]

    thanks - Jersey
