try going to http://www.paceparts.com if just to get an idea of what is out there.

With the proper tuning, you can get most anything to pass. '86 is TBI though isn't it, so you'd have to look at maybe a shortblock or something, so that you could reuse the TBI intake....

I got my from the local Chevy dealer. I haven't had a problem with it yet ( had it for 6 years now ) Another good plus is the dealer ships it to your house for free, and they have a very good warranty..I think it was $2,100 total for a stock 350

i think its carberated. i just took the top of the air cleaner off and it looked just like my quadrajet. TBI has all that other stuff sitting on it,right?

Yeah you are right. '87 first year of TBI. I always confuse that year change over. Anyway, being carbureted, most of the crate motors will work ok I think. Just gotta make sure they have stuff like EGR, Q-jet pattern intake, etc., but shouldn't be hard to find at all.

Well JYC... I'm looking to go this route too... Don't have the time to build, and the cost to build one isn't much cheaper...Especially considering I get 20-25% of GM List price [IMG]. I have been looking at the 383HT truck motor. I'm not sure whether GM axed it or not... I haven't had time to call and find out... otherwise the 330hp 350 w/ the Vortech heads looks pretty nice for 2 g's.

I run the Goodwrench "Target" 350 with an Edelbrock cam and intake and love it. It's got more than enough power to pull the worst grades in AZ in 3rd gear without even breathing hard.

I have voluntarily axed "Pancho" in a bandwidth conservation effort [IMG]

Has any one heard anything about the new edelbrock crates? You can supposedly get smog-legal ones. Has any one heard anything?

I bought a 350HO from GM. 330 HP aint too shabby. I transferred all the emissions equipment off my original 305 to the new engine so its emission legal(except for a EGR but thats now available) Check http://paceparts.com pretty good prices

If you want a brand new one with a warrenty go to www.sdpc2000.com (it stands for Scoggin-Dickey Chevrolet, Parts Center). Someone referred them earlier and I can vouch for their service. I got the GM Goodwrench 350 (non emissions) fully assembled long block for under $1200 (thats before shipping). The motor is ALL brand new, block, crank and all. It comes w/ a three year warrenty valid at any Chevrolet Service Dept. For emissions, I think they have the vortec 350 for around $1800, again brand new w/ an unbeatable warrenty. Before you buy you've got to check them out! All Chevrolet Performance Parts Centers sells these engines, but Scoggin-Dickey buys them at bulk and sells them cheaper than anywhere I've found. Good luck! -Tommy

Evergreen engine out of spokane, wa is a great choice. You can get these at checker/schucks/kragen - they have a 30k warranty and go for about $1000. Just my thoughts.

GM hasn't as of yet axed the 383HT. It is suppose to be available in July. I just spoke with GM yesterday and they assured me it will be available. This is after telling them I needed one and if they were not going to make it available then I was goint to go with the 33OHP 350 w/vortech heads.

i agree with parts from scoggin-dickey, i have bought many parts from them, always been good guys to work with. infact i bought a brand new LS-7 crank from them, with shipping they were $150 less then the local GM dealer.
