What\'s EGR? Do I have it?

I searched but didn't find anything. So what does it do and how do I tell if I have it?
    Thanks.

well EGR means (Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve)
take off the air cleaner top piece completely then face front of truck its on left side of engine. towards the back next to valve cover obove it acctually. looks like a spaceship and its connected to a vacume line.this is for v8

Best word of advice buy a repair manual.

yup that about sums it up remember about 90% of car parts do what their name says but actually i thought it was evaporated gas return vavle it recerculates the gas evaporating from the oil

It's Exhaust Gas Recirculation and does indeed bleed a small amout of exhaust gas back into the intake stream during part throttle operation. This does a couple of very good things. By reducing the combustion temperatures, it greatly reduces detonation tendencies and just happens to also reduce exhaust emissions. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif The valve closes at wide open throttle, so it has NO adverse affects when you floor it. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

BTW, the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system is what sucks crankcase vapors into the intake stream. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
