The absolute best stock running gear is under any '77-'91 K30. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

These have the 400 or 465 trannies, 203 or 205 t-cases, and D60's with either a 14FF or D70 on the dually versions.

The K30's are about as strong as you can get from the factory. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

A lot of opinion as far as the tranny goes, but I'd say an early 1 ton would have the best overall running gear. Dana 60 front/14bolt rear axles, SM465 tranny, NP205 case. Doesn't get much better than that! Or, for the auto tranny crowd you could get a TH400 with the NP205 too. .

hey, forget these guys, the best is:

83 blazer with 305, 700r4, 208, with 2.73 10 bolts front and rear with tires over 40 inches tall /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

just joking and messing with them /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

they are right on the money in my humble opinion, the k30 are the heaviest duty, unfortunately the blazers never came in anything but the 1/2 ton rated stuff /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
but the beeaauuty of chevy is that everything is relatively simple to swap and modify /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif /forums/images/graemlins/burb.gif

that is why our trucks are /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif

Hey! What about the 2.73 10 bolts??? How can you overlook them? It's all about freeway speed, baby! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

The 91 One ton truck/crew cab................454 TBI, 4L80E trans, NP205 TC, D60 front, D70 rear.............THAT beats everything.............unless you're into manual trannies.

Now if I could only find that drivetrain in a Burb...............

Same truck but with a 465...completely bomb-proof. The 465 and 205 would the 32 spline units too with a hydro clutch. I'll take the C14 over the D70 though.

I agree! The 32 spline 465/205 combo from any '85 to '91 K/V30 is the ultimate manual/t-case combo! Just make sure the 205 has the fixed yoke or get it converted. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

And ditto on the rear axle choice, too.

If your talking a Blazer I would say an '80. 12 bolt rear axle and a 205 transfer case. You could still get a 400 in it too!
