Whats the deal with rented DVD\'s

I can understand tapes wearing out or being played in a dirty player but I just got a DVD and all of the rentals I've gotten look like they have been used as frizbees or teething rings, I've literally had to wash some of these in the sink to clean them, and thats just the goo on them. Does anyone have one of those cleaners thats supposed to take out mild scratches, ( to stop the skips )and do they work worth a crap...[IMG][IMG][IMG]

People have very little respect for their own property let alone someone elses.

    Doesn't that piss you off?!

Every DVD that I rent gets a cleaning before I use them, just clean them away from the center..[IMG]

I rented Jurrasic Park and it was skipping so I just used to windex and soft cloth and then it played perfectly! Other then that, the 30 or so dvd's I've rented have been perfecto.

My understanding is that the polishing devices that are used for cds don't work for dvds. This is because dvds have two layers of data and polishing can damage the top layer. If they skip or are damaged you may want to talk to the manager or customer service at the video store. I've received credit for a free rental or two every time I've had similar issues. The polishing devices I've used on cds work have worked extremely well for me.

I was refering to the cleaner designed for DVD's , but I've only seen them once and it was before I got my DVD so maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention [IMG] but I'm glad to hear you've had luck with the CD cleaners, because I never have, I had the one you put the CD in and turn the little handle after you put in the cleaning solution and it always tweaked my CD player, no matter how long you let it sit out and dry. I know about the double layering on the DVD's and thats why I was partly curious about these cleaners being any good... If there is such a thing [IMG]

I'll use this thread to put in a little plug for NetFlix. Take a look if you're bored. It's worked out great for us.

I get most of my videos from a local BlockBuster and even the "New Releases" skip. Ive complained on several occasions and talked to the manager, I get the little heres a free one deal but is it too much to ask that the emolyees open the DVD case and check to make sure the DVD is in good condition or at least clean? I guess since you dont have to rewind DVDs they just make sure they are in there and then let em fly.

Cool, thanks for the info Panther, have you ever had a problem with them being dirty or scratched, and can you send them back one at a time or do you have to send them all back at once...

Re: Whats the deal with rented DVD\'s

I hate DVDs with a passion. My DVD player only works when it wants to and it's only a few months old, and when we rented Gone In 60 Seconds I didn't get to see the last 5 minutes because the DVD was screwed up.

**** DVDs. I am sorry, but they can do much better than these disks that are too easily damaged.

I've never had a problem with a DVD from them and I've been a member for about 4 months now.

They send you out three when you sign up and then you send them back one at a time when you finish with them. You get a postage paid, self-addressed return envelope with each DVD.

When you send it back and they get the DVD, they send you out the next one on your list. The turn around to get another one is about a week total from the day you put it in the mail.

It's been cost effective for us since we used to get slammed with Blockbuster late fees.

Nope, was 9998. 9999 and 10K were in my "tonight" thread.
