What's the difference between 80's manual and automatic driveshafts?

What\'s the difference between 80\'s manual and automatic driveshafts?

The reason I'm asking is that in the LMC blazer catalog, they only sell one front driveshaft for 81-91 blazers, whereas they sell separate manual and auto driveshafts for 80' and earlier. They don't sell rear driveshafts, at least not anymore. The reason I'm asking is I'll be doing the classic 700R4 to SM465 swap this summer and it would be great if I could use my original driveshafts. If they are different, is it the lengths of the shafts? the U-joints?

I would definetly think the lengths are different.

I believe that the SM 465 adapter is so different, that the NP 208 may sit at the right place where the same shaft will work. I could be wrong.

My front driveshaft on my '84 is REALLY short compared to the auto truck driveshaft. My stuff came from a '79 K10 though.

The shafts are the same. The adapters make up for the difference. The shaft is the same for a 465/208 combo, a 400/208 combo, and 700R4/208 combo.

This held true in my 83, 87, and 88 K5/Jimmy's. I am sure, because I have swapped them back and forth many times.

    That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure.

Sweet. One less thing to look for when I swap to manual. Thanks guys.
