What\'s the difference between 87 and 88 Blazer?

In all the parts magazines the year goes up to 87 and starts back up at 89. This has been the source of much frustration. I'm looking for anything different between the years, body, drivetrain, anything. If there is no difference, wouldn't it make sense that I can use 87 or 89 parts on my 88? /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

Very little. I may be wrong, but I thought that they changed the width of the leaf springs in there somewhere. That is about the only possible difference from '87 to '88 that I can think of.

Antenna moved from the windshield to the fender, tripometer was added, late in 88 np241's replaced the 208's, and shackle bolts went from 7/16'' to 1/2'', other than that I can't think of anything /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I have an 88 Blazer and experience the same frustration. I just get parts for an 87. The 89-91 Blazers have a serpentine belt system, thats the only reason I call mine an 87 for parts.

are there any particular strength differences/durability between the 241 and the 208?

well there is the issue that with a 241 you can add a SYE (slip yoke eliminator) and there are 4:1 gears available for it (although I heard that they are kind of weak for a fullsize rig) the oiling system is better than a 208 (I believe that it uses a pump instead of a slinger like the 208) and I have no info to back this up but I have also heard that the 241 has a higher torque rating. Other than that, you can swap one straight over for the other so long as they both have mechanical speedos.
