Just curious. Thinking about feeding it 300-400 HP and 600-800 lbs TQ :) and be reliable, not having to tear it down every 3 months.

If you're willing to spend the coin, I'm gonna go ahead and say you can build a TH400 to withstand more power than you could ever reliably get from a streetable motor.

Got a buddy that's running a 430ci. SBC drag motor that makes 760 hp normal & 1150 hp with the bottle and hasn't hurt his TH400!
He also runs a 5700RPM converter and trans brake and it bangs the inner workings of the tranny real hard but has yet to break anything.
A good reference for what a stock 400 can handle can be seen in the 60s/70s BB Vettes,Camaros etc... , many of the 396,427 and 454s put out from 350 to 450 hp in stock form. My dad who's a Vette owner/enthusiast also said that most of these hp numbers where way understated for insurance and emission reasons.

I think a stock th400 with a good cooler can take anything you can dish out.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... grave digger runs a th400 and so do alot of other monster trucks... 1500-2000 hp with 66 inch tires...

it'll take just about anything you can throw at it if you have the coin.

I ran one with a big block dynoed at 585 horse and 562 torque with a 250 shot of nitrous on my bracket truck with slicks and never broke it. It had upgraded sprag, clutch hub, pump with a 3800 stall converter.

This would have a bombed Cummins in front of it. Towing 12000 lbs regularly.

might as well run an allison then. You know it will hold up to that. And will get better mileage with the higher top gear.
