    Minor Quake Confirmed
    3.3 on Richter Scale

The USGS confirms that a minor earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter Scale, rumbled through parts of Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri on Friday morning. There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Geophysicist Waverly Person with the U.S. Geological Survey's National Earthquake Information Center said the quake was measured at 3.3 on the Richter scale, which classifies it as minor.

The epicenter of the quake, which first rumbled at 7:17 a.m. CDT, was about 20 miles southeast of Auburn and 15 miles southwest of Shenandoah, Iowa, Person said.

A dispatcher in the Nemaha County sheriff's office said her office had reports of people feeling tremors from Auburn to Brownville and Nemaha.

There were no reports of damage, she said. Other reports came from as far north as central Sarpy County and as far south as Tarkio, Missouri.

"Just a little bit of shaking, apparently a rumbling," said the dispatcher, who declined to give her name.

Ann Kouba of Auburn thought one of her two children had fallen out of bed about 7:15 a.m., but they were fine. The low thump, however, was followed by her table moving slightly.

"The whole house started moving just like some giant was jumping up and down. It was long, probably 10 or 15 seconds," Kouba said.

At nearby Cooper Nuclear Station outside of Brownville, operators felt a tremor, but it was not severe enough to sound seismic alarms in the control room, said Beth Boesch, spokeswoman for the Nebraska Public Power District, which owns and operates the electric power plant.

Boesch said the plant was operating at full power and investigators did not find any damage.

"Everything is operating as it should, so there has been no impact on the plant," Boesch said.

Kouba, who's husband works at Cooper, said the tremble at her house wasn't large enough to knock anything off the walls, but it did feel like an earthquake. About 10 minutes after the tremors, she got a call from a neighbor who asked if she had felt something.

"I said, 'I think it was an earthquake' and she said, 'good, because that's what I thought it was,"' Kouba said.

Thursday night, parts of southeast Missouri, southern Illinois and western Kentucky were shaken by a minor earthquake. No major damage was reported. A preliminary measurement indicated that quake was 3.5 on the Richter scale, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake occurred at 10:25 p.m. Thursday. The epicenter was about 10 miles south of Cairo, Ill., in Mississippi County, Missouri. Person said there was no connection between the two quakes.

Ever heard of the new madrid fault?? I remeber an earthquake in IL when I was a kid from that one. It was also something like a 3.x so just enough to feel it but not enough to do any damage. Nothing new /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
