    What\'s your crawl ratio?

    Just curious.

Mine is currently 32.74, with 53.63 worth going in ASAP.

    How about you guys?

Not that it matters, I rarely use low range anyway...not enough wheelspeed.

    47.81:1 gotta love the SM465[IMG]

    Jek...the NP 208 has a 2.61:1 low range. 3.06x2.61x4.56=36.42:1 crawl ratio

36:1 in the Blazer-could definitly use more, its just on the edge of acceptable.

The funny thing is the daily driver has a 54:1. The 154" wheel base kind of negates that, though.

    Re: What\'s your crawl ratio?

My pavement pounder has 30:1. Kinda funny cause I'm making a big fuss about putting in my new 12 bolt even though the 10 would hold up to what I do.

    Re: What\'s your crawl ratio?

Currently, the only thing crawling around here is me. Under the blazer at about 12 ft per sec...[IMG]
When I'm done, it should be 40.50 to one (with a doubler)
    T350/203/205/4:10 gears.
    or
    2:52 x 2.0 x 1.96 x 4.10 = 40.5 to 1

Do you include the torque converter slip when useing an auto? Somethng like 1.8 to one I think for the converter.
Than it would be 72.9 to one.

    Re: What\'s your crawl ratio?

Crawl ratio = transmission 1st gear x transfer case low range ratio x axle ratios

    Mine is currently 3.06 x 2.61 x 4.10
    Soon to be 6.55? x 1.96 x 4.10

    Re: What\'s your crawl ratio?

Basicaly, I think it about the ability to crawl over, up and down objects in a contoled rate of speed.

So you don't have to use momentum to get from point A to point B. (momentum is hard on parts, more so than torque. I would think) As you "gear down", torque is multiplied, and torque is what gets you moveing and keeps you moveing.
Torque is the ability to do work (basicaly), more torque (out-right or by gearing down) the more work can be done.

Tire size does have an effect on the crawl ratio, the larger the tire, the more ground is covered at the same R.P.M.. I don't know why it's not figured into the formula, probably due to too meny varaiables - I guess.
