what\'s your favorite cam for the 383?

i'm finally switching to the 383. in 7 more days the smog law disappears for my 74 /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif and i want to be able break things. i'd like a good split cause i'd like to keep some resemblance of vacuum, but i could really care less about the milage /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

    what experiences have you had?

I have a 280 cam in my 383. It's 222 @ .050 and .450 lift on both sides. I have good vacuum and idle. I run it at about 2800 most of the time...really comes alive above 3500. The numbers: 402 hp @ 5500 and 430lbs at 3000. Torque does not fall below 400 until about 5200.

I'm happy with it! Good luck.

Dude contact Com Cams tech line and they will help you get the best cam for your engine combination. They will ask you about engine, tranny, gearing, and all mods you have done to the motor. I am using a 268 comp cam, I wanted the power band a little lower. I have used them on numerous engines and their advice has always been good. Don't go too big with stock gearing and torque converter. Your performance will suffer and you will not be happy

Depends on compression, heads, intake, carb, headers or not, gears, stall, tire size......etc. What do you have?

i know, i don't mind buying new stuff to match a good setup... i just like to what other people think of the combos they've already built. nothin like good war stories to find out what you should and shouldn't do! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
