So, hopefully I'll only be in Kansas for another year, after which I'll move back to VA. In VA a CCW permit is somple to get, and firearms laws are preempted on the state level. However, I feel no need to pay $150 for a CCW permit for Kansas, if I'm only going to be here for a year.

Open carry is legal in Kansas, though. I'm still researching some local municipality codes to ensure it's not restricted in the local cities, but it's something I'm seriously considering.

If I have my pistol with me, its normally in the car. The only time it is on my side is when I am going hunting. Otherwise, I don't carry it. You want to carry one all of the time, get a CCW.

I agree. CCW. You should check on www.packing.org regarding reciprocity, it's possible that you could go ahead and get your CCW in VA if KS honors theirs.

Edit: nevermind. I just checked and KS does not do CCW at all apparently.

I personally will only carry concealed for multiple reasons. Open carry is asking for hassles in a multitude of public places and in any big city the popo's gonna hassle you too.

KS does allow CCW. Packing.org needs updated. Effective 1 Jan 07 their issuing CCW permits to the tune of $150 for residents.

Yeah, that would be nice, but the state hasn't come out with a reciprocity list yet, and Virginia probably wouldn't make it due to different requirements. I wouldn't need to take a class for a VA CCW.

    CCW.
I have a permit here in WA but rarely carry due to human nature and restrictions at work. I usually only pack when camping or offroading in remote locals.

Open carry is asking for confrontations.

A sharp eyed LEO can tell when you are packing, so expect some attention, even if you have the license.

I agree. And some will disagree with me, but I see no need to carry all of the time. I suppose that I just avoid areas where I think that I may need a pistol unless it absolutely can't be helped.

If you open carry and end up in a bad situation, I imahine you'd be the first one shot
