i have 4.5 in. backspacing with 44x19.5x16.5 boggers. i am running highsteer/ crossover from ORD so i don't have any issues with my rod ends but if they were in the stock location i would have about an 1.5 in. of clearance.

Rim width is going to make a difference in how much BS the wheel can have. A narrower rim will allow the tire to bulge out more, increasing the effective BS of the wheel. What width are you looking at?

I'm going to assume that you're running a D60... By my calculations, the most BS that you could run without rubbing the steering box would be *about* 3.75"-4".
