What are the advantages and disadvantages of 15's and 16's? What is the better size to get?

My $.02: 15'' wheels have more tire sizes to choose from and are generally cheaper. 16'' wheels will fit over 3/4 or 1 ton axles without further mods, but there are less available tire sizes and they tend to cost more. Do a search on this, it has been run into the ground.

what type of modifications would be needed to run a 15 on a 3/4 or 1 ton rig?

Also you can only run 15''s on 3/4 or 1 ton axles if the wheels are steel. The aluminum wheels are too thick. And you can get away with very little or no grinding of the calipers if you use VERY little backspacing (something like 2 1/2'').
