The first two hours of the wheeling trip were perfect: snow, mud and water. It was my first real wheeling trip of the year and I had to have one truck towed 75 miles home. I'm glad I took both trucks because the black one DIED in the creek (water splashed on the alternator in a truck that needed a new ring gear and starter). Not fun to change a starter and flywheel in 18" of water, and an hour of trickery was to no avail. Eight hours later I'm home having spent $375 of the rent money. Sorry, Sharon!
In retrospect, I should have not taken a truck with teeth missing off the ring gear and starter gear so far into the boonies. Oops! The good news is that the US Forest Service guy that pulled over the orange Blazer decided against citing me for speeding back to the stranded truck and the Sheriff who was waiting at the stranded submerged truck did not bust me for trespassing (it wasn't marked and it was in the middle of a Natl. Forest) or driving in the creek (apparently most waterways are closed and they said that Fish and Game would have fined me $1,500). These officers were really nice and sympathetic to my plight. Next time I will replace the rubber fender skirts because the engine got a major shower. Also, I will only go on the marked trails and not speed on the service roads. I'm not discouraged, though, because I know that you K5ers are gonna waterproof your engines so this doesn't happen to you.

Sounds like my wheelin trips too! One summer I had about $300 just in fees for having a guy come pull me and friends out with a 4WD backhoe(My pic in DEC 98 Petersen's, was the first time he pulled me and he almost go t stuck 3 times)

Then I broke and axle in my 10bolt about 5 miles back into the woods and had to limp it out and jack it up every 10 ft or so to push the axle back in... Had ot have it towed home...

Such fun!!! But hey, we had a fun time wheelin up until then!

My biggest problem is that I get broed easily and once that happens, it is not hard for someone to talk me into doing somethign and usually the hole is alot bigger than my Jimmy!

I just bought a trailer about 2 weeks before Moab. Man it's nice not having to worry about driving the truck home.

The fire was put out very quick, I was working on the lights on my Jimmy in front of the Mustang. I had just finished washing it so the hose was right there. I smelled wires buring and assumed it was my truck...then I saw the smoke pouring out of the Mustang. Under side of the seat is crispy and the carpet needs to be replaced. All the wiring to the rear of the car survived...we got lucky.
