Really would love to have a Duramax/Allison Suburban, anyone know if 2005 will be the year?

    This from the DieselPage:

    [ QUOTE ]
Q: When will Duramax diesel Suburbans and Vans be produced?

A: GM has apparently withdrawn plans to introduce a Duramax 6600 powered Suburban or van. An unknown consumer demand and the ever tightening emissions regulations have GM reticent to invest in a new diesel powertrain offering in its top-end SUV line.

There is an article on the diesel page about a guy who bought all new parts and assembled one. It's quite interesting, the cost was less than buying a new Suburban or at least very comparable. There are companies that sell major parts that have some minor flaw or handling damage from the assembly line.

I knew a guy that did this through his salvage company. He said is was an annual contract that you bid on. GM would scrap old stock through this channel as well. They just had to damage it slightly before it went out. Sometimes as little as a tap with a hammer... other times a run-in with a forklift /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

It ended for him when GM closed down their warehouse in this province. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
