I'm curious... What vehicles would you normally find an NP261 transfer case? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'm guessing a 3/4 or 1 ton Dodge pickup made in recent years.

Well, that's odd... I have one in my K5 now, but I didn't when I bought the truck. Looks like AAMCO switched my NP208 for an NP261 back in September when I had them rebuild (or replace, it appears) my T-case.

And, of course, it's leaking out of the rear bearing again. How nice. I'm also stuck in 4x4. Guess I'll never be going back to AAMCO again! /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

Sure that's not an NP 241 hero?

NVG model 261 is the case that is used in the '01 and up GM 2500HD and 3500 trucks. I don't know of any other application. I think they are pretty close to a 241, but the ones on the new trucks have magnesium cases, and slip yoke front AND rear outputs.

Why would it have a slip yoke front output? The differential housing on an 01+ HD doesn't move it is completely stationary.

    That is exactly why.
You can't have a rigid connection you need to have room for heat expansion so a slip yoke front would make sense for ease of assembly.

That's an intersting setup if I've ever heard of one.

From what I've been gathering, I musta had my eyes crossed when I was staring at that spec badge on the T-case... Ugh.

    It's not been my week!

Moved from Colorado to the Chicago, IL area back in August, just bought a house in February in Rockford. Been very busy with the new job and finding a house... Plus I didn't have internet where I was staying while looking for a house.

So, now I have a house, with a huge two car garage that my K5 barely fits into, and no tools. Doh! I'll have to fix that! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

It's alright. At least you're not too lazy to get under your truck and look at the tag.

I hope I never get that lazy either!

My only defense was I didn't take a flashlight down there with me, so I must have misread part of the tag.

I'll verify the numbers on that T-case soon... Couldn't do it tonight, and I'm bowling tomorrow night so it'll be late and very dark when I get home.

Man... It's not been my week, I tell ya.
