I haven't seen him on here for some time now. [IMG]

'Ol Mark was one of those "quiet" ones who sat back to read everyone's replies and throw in a good one now and then.

    Anybody heard from the man?

I don't have his exact address, but he's in San Francisco. (I think! Rene would know for sure)

But if he doesn't show up soon I will go find it out of I wanna make sure hes doing ok! [IMG]

Hey everyone, thanks for thinking about me. I’m doing just fine. I’ve just been extreemly busy lately. My business has never been stronger and as a result, I have multiple projects going. I was just up in Lake Tahoe for a week installing Plasma Monitors and making improvements to the home theater system of a beautiful waterfront home in Glenbrook (east shore – Nevada side). I slept in the guest bedroom at the house and had the whole house (3 storys - 5000 square feet) to myself.

My social life has also taken off. I recently joined a singles ski club that keeps me busy with meetings and social events. It’s a really great group of people. When I joined, I was the 100th member, which became a big deal for the club. Everyone calls me “Number 100”. While in Tahoe, I took a break from the work and stayed last Friday and Saturday night at the club cabin near Truckee. I didn’t ski Saturday because it had been raining , and I knew the conditions would have sucked. From the reports I heard from the people who did ski, I was right. Most of them came off the mountain soaking wet and cold since it rained all afternoon (Ski clothes are water resistant…not waterproof). I did, however, attend a great club party Saturday night at a condo in Incline. Then on Sunday afternoon, I returned to the home in Glenbrook to finish up the job. I drove home Monday evening.

I’ve been around CK5, but like Rene said, I mostly lurk now to save time. Since I can’t spend hours on the site anymore, I only open the threads with topics that look new, or relate to a mod on my To Do List. I’ve been on CK5 for 17 months now, so most of the forum topics are repeats. The old timers in here know that well.

Since this thread is in the main forum, I should relate this to my K5. I towed a trailer to Tahoe filled with the Plasma Monitors, tools and supplies, plus about 7 pieces of furniture for my client’s house. Packing for the trip was complex since I had to pack the tools and supplies for the job, pack for a weekend of skiing, plus load the tools and spare parts that I carry with me anytime I travel with the Blazer. The trailer was essential. It’s a 15 foot Wells Cargo ‘Box’ and it was an easy trailer to pull. My guess is the total weight of the trailer loaded was under 3000 lbs. Walnut Creek to Tahoe is about 200 miles and the drive up to the lake is a long steady climb from just north of Sacramento (HWY 50) to the 7000 foot summit. Once past the summit, it’s about a half-hour more to get to the lake. I didn’t check my gas mileage, but I used almost a full tank to get there with the full trailer, and only a half tank to get home, with the empty trailer.

While driving up to Tahoe, it was raining non-stop, but when I got to around 5000 feet, the rain turned to snow. The cars were dropping back and before long, the road was covered with a layer of fresh snow. Cars were lined up in the turn-outs and the owners were chaining up (ever watch people putting chains on? It can be very entertaining). I just continued on, since the Blazer was doing just fine, even in 2WD. Then before long, when coming out of a curve, I felt kind of a slight 'thunk'. It didn’t seem like a big deal so I just continued on. But after coming out of another curve, I felt another 'thunk'. The pattern continued and I was beginning to get a little concerned, so I decided to pull over and checked the trailer. Everything looked OK, so while I was stopped I also locked my hubs and shifted into 4H before heading back out on the highway. After coming out of a couple more curves, I got the 'thunk' again. I was really puzzled because I couldn’t figure out what was causing it. While continuing to try and figure it out, I was in another right curve, and I noticed an oncoming car hugging the shoulder of the road. As he passed, I looked in my side mirror to see how or what he was doing. To my surprise, instead of seeing the car, I saw the trailer out to the left at about a 30 degree angle to the Blazer. I immediately eased out of the throttle, and as the trailer centered itself behind the Blazer again, you guessed it….THUNK! At that moment, after saying OOP’S outloud, I decided the obvious and slowed it down a bit. After watching the trailer stay behind the Blazer in the next few curves, I noted my speed and decided to keep it at or below that speed until I was out of the snow. Then I got a grin on my face. In 2 to 5 inches of snow, and with the trailer swinging out to the side on the curves, the Blazer was solid as a rock, even when it was in 2WD. It was just another example of how solid and capable our Blazers are. I love my Blazer! I was just lucky I didn’t smack an oncoming car with that trailer before I discovered what was causing the thunk!

Thanks again for thinking about me,
    Mark

PS. Did you see me in Lord of the Rings? [IMG]

    Hey Man! Congrats!

LMAO slinging the trailer out! No wonder you had the road to yourself.

Describe the Plasma Monitors you are installing pls.

You are home entertainment specialist? What do you think of Parasound equipment? I need to upgrade my preamp and was thinking of staying with the AVC 2500u.

It's easier to point you to the webpage for the Pioneer model PDP 503CMX (50" screen) I installed in Tahoe. The list price was just reduced to $15,500.

What do you think of Parasound equipment?

Parasound is good equipment but I prefer and promote Denon Surround Sound Receivers. Here's a link to the Denon AVR-5800 which costs just a little more than the Parasound AVC 2500u but offers way more features for the money, especially the 8 A/V inputs, 3 Component video inputs, and the 9 assignable digital audio inputs...you always need more inputs.

    http://www.denon.com/catalog/products.asp?l=1&c=2

If you have more questions, send me a PM, since this is way off topic for the main forum.

Glad to see you are still alive!! [IMG]

Sounds like you had lots of fun, too!! To be able to drive somewhere, stay in the house, work, go out and have more fun later, Hell, what more could a person ask for? [IMG] [IMG]

Don't you ever get "nervous" handling expensive equipment like that? Or, just to play it safe, you have insurance, just in case something were to happen? [IMG] [IMG]

Anyways, great to see you back here, Mark! There are a "select few" that I keep my eyes open for and know when they are and are not on the site. [IMG]

It was a unique week, alright. The only thing that could have made it better is snow instead of rain, so I could have skied and done more snow wheel'in in the Blazer.

In reply to:

Don't you ever get "nervous" handling expensive equipment like that?

You bet I do!! I have to be extreemly careful to protect the screens. I once saw a Plasma Monitor with a cracked screen for sale on eBay. The reserve was set at $450, and there were 13 bids...the highest bid was only $300. [IMG]

Wes, are you going to be at the CK5 Moab Wing-Ding in August? I'm counting on seeing you there.

CK5 Moab Wing-Ding - That's what we should call it! LMAO!

You deal with some cool stuff!

I'll check out Dennon - any problems running them with my Parasound amps?

My friend was helping someone move in Fresno - they put a projection style big screen in the back of an open truck. Melted the screen by the time they transported it. ouch

    ...projection style big screen...

The replacement screens on those rear projection TV's are around $800. When I move those, I duct tape a 1/4" plywood cover over the screen for protection. It's cheap insurance considering the replacement cost. Goo Gone gets the adhesive off when your're done.

I like that name - CK5 Moab Wing Ding!! [IMG] Gotta let Steve know about that!

As for the "Wing Ding", it all depends on the date. I have heard the date for this week was going to be at the end of August.
Unfortunately, if it does fall at the end of August, I will not be able to make it. [IMG] School starts somewhere like the 3rd week of the month, so for me to take my vacation then, the board members and other bosses would frown upon that.

I am praying that the "Wing Ding" would fall somewhere at the beginning or middle of the month. If it should, I can almost guarantee everybody that I would NOT miss this trip!!! [IMG] [IMG]

So, I can only wait to see what Steve has planned for the dates. Maybe I should start PM'ing and e-mailing him to bug him into having it at the start of August!! [IMG] [IMG]
