I would put them in that order:
    205, 203, 208
    But that is me.
Someone else could say the 208 is better for the gearing, I want the strength.
I have my gearing in my diesel /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

205 has a very weak low range, by weak i mean high.
203 has to be converted to part time 4 wheel drive, or you can leave it in full time

The 205 has 1.96:1 low range
The 203 Has 2.01:1 low range
The 208 has 2.67:1 low range (if I am not mistaken)
Do you think the 205 is much worse than the 203 in that range /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Yes you DO HAVE TO change the 203 to part time or you CAN LEAVE it in full time.

Only drawback to the 203 is that its full time, isnt it? I mean unless you dont mind that.

Could be drawback could be advantage.
I always had a 203 and I loved because it was full time.
All the newer AWD are full time, why do you think?
To me the drawback was the weight, and the fact it is chain driven.
When my chain broke, it wedged between the case and the gears and poped a window in the case /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
I just put a 205 in it's place, much lighter, and gear driven.

the 205 is still considered heavy though isnt? i agree on the order posted abuot 205 203 208, the case on the 208 is incredibly weak, the ultimate tcase in my 0pinion and almost everyone else is 203 205 doubler,

i thought it was a more drastic difference btw the 203 and 205. i just use the 205 with the 700 and it all works out.

Fulltime means it is 4 wheel drive all the time, you have 4 high, 4 high lock, 4 low, and 4 low lock. If you want to just drive on the rear wheels, you'd need to convert the 203 to part time. I personally like fulltime.

OK you don't get it because it was a comment on what you said:
a 203 HAS to be converted to part time,or you CAN leave it full time 4wd.
So it HAS to or CAN it stay..
If you don't see it then just forget it...

I guess you have to be a smart ass like me to notice these subtle things.

should i have said "a 203 would have to be converted to part time, if you want a part time transfer case"?

Ok so you got it. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
It's just that when I first read it, it sounds like you can't use it as is, you have to convert it, then you add the OR you can leave it full time.
I guess I was just too bored and I needed something t think about.
