82 and 83 had the head cracking problems, also the heads have different threads (course or fine cant remember which is which though) on the injectors. So as the doctor says go with one over 85 and clear problems.

    great

Were the cracked heads from a manufacture screw up or were people destroying them by not taking care of the engine?

Prolly from peeps pushing the engine too hard while towing I'd imagine.

Cracking heads is something to watch on all, even the 6.5s. In '97(some late '96s) GM went to a higher volume water pump and dual t-stats for improved cooling. Best year for the 6.2 motor, IMO, the '92-93 versions. Supposed to be the same block casting as the 6.5s, just smaller bore. Blocks are said to be thick enough to handle an overbore too 6.5L displacement.

I wouldn't pass up a clean pre-'85 blazer/sub just because of the year. Most stuff can be upgraded easily to the post '85.
