When I go into 4-low my t-case whines. What would cause this? On a different note, I'm not sure if this is the exact problem, but it sounds like the chain inside is loose, but i cant really tell what or exactly where the noise is comming from. Please help!

Usualy a whiny noise is caused by a bad bearing. As far as a loose chain goes that is very possible with a NP203, it sound like it might be time for a rebuild!

Is this in your 88? If so, then some whining in low range seems to be normal for those t-cases. My '87 K5 whined in low range, as do my '91 S-Jimmy and my '94 Suburban. It's just the nature of the beast. [IMG]

How loud is the whine? What other sounds lead you to believe the chain is loose? I've always noticed a small amount of whining with the TC engaged........or maybe that's just the two twerps in the back seat that I'm hearing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though, I've owned the truck for 9 years and have always noticed a subtle whine in 4x4. I'd imagine if the chain is stretched or damaged you'd hear some rattling, too.........

My T-case has always wined in low (but not high) so I hope it isn't a problem. I usually cant hear it below 10-15 mph but above 20 it sounds like a stick shift in reverse.

I thought my T-Case whined when I put in in four wheel drive but, I found out that the coupler betweent the CV joint on the front drivshaft was shot. It wallowed out the hole and I had about an inch and a half slop in it. At least I know what has been causing all that noise!
