If you can figure out how to do it. Check out Steve Frizbes cage on Yellow feaver. One of the best looking cages I've seen in a K5

My friend, Henry (bablazer73) put a cage in his 87/73 K-5. I dunno exactly what he did, but it came out nice. Ask him what he did

FYI..I have one and it was built by a local pipe bender I found in the yellow pages. He built cages as a side job and did a very nice and tight job for me. I hung out with him and helped out were I could. It took a full day to doit and 300 bucks later I had a 6pt cage in my K5. Sence then I have got two kids so I now am in need of adding a rear halo for more back seat pertection.
    Good luck

I built mine out of 2" pipe that the local steel suplier said all the local stock cars use. I think the total cost was around $55 including buyin steel, having it bent and painting it.

If you are interested in some pics of mine here they are:

The cage cost about $600.00 fully installed. It is completly tig welded and uses the existing body mounts to tie it into the frame. The cage also extends through the dash to eliminate bends and improve strength. There is also a horizontal bar that is inside the dash. Hope this helps.

The way it mounts to the floor is easier to explain since most parts are hidden. I replaced the floor and when I had the pan out I installed square tubing inside the body mount channels that the body mount bolts go through (four locations 2 front and 2 behind the seat) Once the floor pan was replaced a 2 " x 1/4" thick strip of plate was welded to the floor between the front and rear body mount locations to keep the cage from spreading at the bottom. The cage was welded to this strip and directly over the body mount locations. I hope this is clearer than it sounds.

Any details/pics of how it goes through the dash, and the cross bar? I really like the idea, but have concerns about the body flex--would need pretty big holes.

I ran the front bars down through the speaker hole on the driver's sided and made a hole to match on the passenger side. I had to notch the bottom edge of the dash on both sides. The holes are only 1/2" bigger than the tubes. With the cage tied into the body mounts there is very little flex between the body and the cage. You can see a picture of the horizontal bar in the dash if you look where the instrument cluster goes in the picture album I have listed in a previous post. The horizontal bar will not work for you if you want to maintain stock instruments and/or if you have a/c. My second choice was to run the horizontal bar just above the dash.
