I have seen a few pics on here from time to time of RC truck crawlers. I have been researching it some and am thinking of building a TLT for some driveway wheelin. Anyone have any input on these or other rigs? Thinking of kinda mocking my 71 K5 like this guy did

i'm kinda wanting a 2.2 Clod based crawler, not so much for the crawling ability as much as the scale.

Dude I got all the hop up stuff for my Clod and the first thing I did was stuff some 2.2's under it, kinda gives a way wide wheel base, unless I screwed up something with the offset. I think Im going to get one of the F-350's this year and get a diferent frame and try to put the clod body on it. Should give better scale with the narrower base.

I really want the F350 and stick a Clod body on it to kinda have a scale K5. Doubt I would do too much real crawlin with it but it would be a cool shelf queen if I actually finish it.

rccrawler.com is very cool. I just realized that Jay Kopycinski is writting for them now. When I had my 81 Toyota I used to lurk on off-road.com and Jay did all kinds of Toyota stuff over there. I also think he wrote for Off-Road magazine and maybe other 4x4 magz as well.

I am buying a HPI Savage 25 Limited Edition from a friend. It's got more extras that I can list. I know it's not the real crawler type, but I am going to get a set of LOW LOW gears for it and see how much I can make it crawl. I will of course also have normal gears for GO FASTER operations.

I want to get that 67-72 body that I see in some of the pics. That is really really cool.

the tamiya f-350 isnt really a crawler... its a fun truck but after tearing one apart i can honestly say their best use is parts for other trucks... they're cool trucks just not at all what i want in a scale truck.

Yeah, why wouldnt it be a good rig?

The more I look at what people are doing with the TLT, the more I like it. Everytime I would walk by them at the LHS I thought they were dumb looking because the way the body sits up so far off the chassis but now I see some pretty good lookin trucks! What chassis and suspension are you using for yours? I dont want a hardcore crawler, just a good scale rig with good articulation.

Scale is kinda new to me and crawling is really new to me. I have been into nitros for a few years and sold everything off recently except my MLST and a bunch of LST2 parts. Never had anyone around into crawlin so I never got in on it.

the f-350 is heavy, top heavy, low ground clearance, the tires suck, no articulation due to leaf springs. literally about 1" of artic. its too damn complicated. granted, any scale rig will be compared to a comp truck but still, too much... they just dont perform well enough to be taken seriously in my opinion..

im using a bender customs SW2 chassis, home made links with 6/32 all thread sleeved with aluminum tubing and traxxas heim joints. with traxxas titanium nitride coated t-maxx shocks.

heres some links for more info and products.

From what I was reading over there alot of people are using 55 turn motors. I think I will get the TLT kit soon but will be a long build. I have wanted a Bruiser for years and also have wanted the Hi Lift since I first saw the pictures online about 6 or 7 months ago. Looks like I can have a better truck and spend less money by just getting the TLT.

were you at moab last september? awesome setup for a super class rig.

    norby...
as for the motor setup, i run a brushless setup from holmeshobbies.com in my competition rig. my scaler runs a novak XRS speed control and an axiom 55t motor. both work very well but brushless just kicks ass... register over on rccrawler and PM me ill get you the suspension setup info i use on my SW2.
