10 minutes?...What the hell? I spent close to 6 hours to get those cast SOB's off my 14 bolt!! I went through 2 grinding discs and 4 cutting discs. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif I had to cut it into little pieces and beat on it with a BFH!!

So, what is the trick? We are all ears! /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif

i always thought they were far enough apart that you could just leave the old ones on there.

A little secret I learned. I did the same as a lot of you with a bunch of cutting disks and grinders at first, then I learned the secret of the portable ban saw. This thing is great, looks like two wheels with a ban-saw blade. It walked through it, tight to the axle (be careful not the let the blade drift into the housing). Definitely not a plasma cutter, but it leaves you with very little grinding afterwards too.

The "blue wrench" worked just fine for me and mine were also reusable. Did I mention it took me about 5 minutes per side? It is amazing what you can do with a reguler cutting torch when you get good at using it. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Nope, Didn't use a Plasma cutter.../forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif See that 9" DeWalt grinder on the table in the 1st picture? And the big ass ball peen hammer in the second picture? Thats all it took. I ground out the weld's on the ends of the perch and the one that went halfway around the axle tube only on the pumpkin side. Just gotta have a steady hand and know when to stop. Then bashed the $hit out of it from the same side. with only one side welded it only took about 10 bashes with the hammer for it to break off. NoSmog73 was standin right there when I did it. He can verify. As far as using the plasma cutter...Hard to do without gouging into the tube atleast a little bit. Easier and quicker to do it with the grinder using the method above.

Got the rust off with a 4 1/2" grinder with a knotted cup wire wheel and about 1.5 hours of work. It sucked, I was hackin up black [censored] for a few houyrs after. I hadn't shaved for a few days so all the [censored] stuck in my wiskers...I looked like a coal miner. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Thank you sir. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Been to a formal welding school, and have been working as a welder/fabricator for 4 or 5 years now. I've been practicing welding with me eyes closed latley...Just listening to the sound of the arc to tell what I'm doing.
