    Who\'s runnig a TH400/NP208 combo?

I just toasted my TH350 this weekend, and I have a TH400/NP208 combo in my 82 parts truck. I'm gonna swap that in to get me back up and running the soonest. I'm just curious what ya'all think of the combo....Any issues? I know the 208 is a slip yoke, and that sucks. But I'm gonna start lookin for a 205 and the parts to convert, so I wont be runnin this combo for long. Will the 208 live behind Big Block power? Just lookin for some overall thoughts and opinions ect ect. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

If the question is, "Will the 208 hold behind big block power?"

The answer is yes. I have the 400/208 combo in two trucks and and setting up a third.

The first one is in my Sand Drag race truck- about 600 rear wheel HP
The second is my other truck, the Jimmy- ZZ502 Crate Motor- 567ftlbs.
Going to put the combo in my next project too- a ZZ4 crate in a 87 K5.

I like the lightweight of the case and the deep low range.

    Hope it helps,
    John

I run a TH400/ NP241 combo. It replaced my old 700/np208 combo. The worst thing I noticed in the 1st gear in the TH400 is alot taller than the 700 or TH350s 1st gear.

From my expierence, I've never had any problem with a 208... but I wheel with a guy who cracked the hell out of his 208 case when it hit something unknown in the bottom of a mud pit. The case cracking seems like it would be a concern.

Didn't get a chance to tell ya this, and it's been awhile since it's been posted. There was a guy racing a Blazer in the dezert, running a hopped up 454 TBI. He ran the races in 4hi from what was posted and only had one failure with the 208.

When we go to Raines, I'll be bringing a video I have that was taken during a race of his truck, mostly in car stuff.

Good so know that ya'all havent had any troubles with the combo. Also good to know that it will put up with some hp.
And yeah......I'm sure the tranny is gone, it has been leakin really bad, and I ran it pretty low acouple times.....I'm pretty sure that the clutches are fried. I've only got 1st and reverse. When I put it in drive, it acts like it wants to move, the motor revs up and the truck just barely moves. But it's all good, The TH400 will be waaaay better behind the big block anyways.
